I bought and restored this sweet little cape style Federal period home in 1989-90. The interior of the house had suffered the loss of its original historic fabric including its fireplace and a couple of walls. A later stairway had been put in. Little evidence was left of its original configuration but it was certain that it had been altered. So, I had to use logic and my knowledge of early homes to decide what to do. A new stairway in period style was built, new walls & doorways, with salvaged antique doors or the period. A Dining Room was created separate from a Parlor. I had great plans to expand the house into a Connected Farm configuration, but the economy crashed in New England in 90-91 and these plans never came to fruition.
The middle room used as a Dining Room, with the kitchen beyond. The kitchen is divided between the eating area and the cooking area with a traditional 18th Century tavern keep. A view into the stair hall showing the new country federal style stair. Doorways from the middle room into the Parlor and the stair hall. Plan drawing for the stairway Just another nice view of the house sort of nestled in the Maples.
