French Country Inspired Home

This is an original home design inspired by some old French farms I have seen. Its inspiration is definitely Country French involving low gable roofed sections and the short round towers with conical roofs seen in many vernacular country buildings, especially in Southern France. It seems ideally suited to the more south and western areas of the U.S. but could as well be comfortable in most any state. This design is available for purchase and complete construction plans can be provided.

This is the view showing the garage. From the garage one walks into the lower floor level and may ascend directly up, via a lift, into the working area of the kitchen, housed in the end section.

This Mediterranean style desert home was commissioned in 1998 and built the same year, along with a matching guest house. The home site is in Paradise Valley, Arizona

Craftsman/Spanish Style Home

The exterior of this fine smaller home was designed by me on commission from an architect friend who had laid out the floor plan. I enlivened the Spanish Colonial Revival form with Craftsman style details opening the house up to the exterior with a deck and a patio on both floor levels. The home was built in Auburn, California

Craftsman Inspired Lodge Home

This large, 5 to 7 bedroom mountain lodge was inspired by a visit to the Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood in Oregon. The central area of this private lodge home has much of the lofty feeling of Timberline. With the central Great Room open 2 1/2 stories to the roof beams and the adjoining spaces open to it, there certainly is a lofty feeling. This design is available for purchase and has not been previously built.

Colonial Revival Tall Cape Cod Style Home

This is an original design for a new home in the Colonial Revival style with some Federal style details. The main house is based on the proportions of what is known as a Tall Cape, which allows enough height in its second floor for full sized rooms. The floor plan includes a double sized Parlor (Living Room) with a Library or Office to the side. The other side of the front entry and stairway contains a fine sized Dining Room and large, eat in kitchen. From the kitchen one accesses a side entry complex which also connects to the garage and to the large family room and guest rooms above. This design is available for purchase.

Great Mountain Views  from this excellent, modern Truckee, California mountain home.    Built on an up-slope property well above the southern views toward the Tahoe Mountain Ranges.  Built in 2000 it contains 3 bedrooms and two baths plus a guest suite, game room, and the great room with kitchen and dining areas, and open beamed, timber framed ceiling.  Also a large 3 car garage and workshop.  Custom designed for the owner, it fills all the needs and delights of their mountain home dream.

Completed House

This is from the road looking up at the house. The mountains to the south are unobstructed from the lofty location.  The steep up-slope site dictated how the house  sort of steps up the mountain side.  This is most evident in the pre construction rendering at the top here.  The garage has quite a high ceiling, which is very handy for the owner, a contractor, and it puts the main floor high enough on the slope to command the great view and shorten the step up to the rear section of the building.  It all works out quite well, if I do say so myself.
